FERNUNG STUDIO creates site-specific interior and exterior murals for homes, businesses, hospitality spaces, and public-facing walls.

Every commission is designed and painted by artist Eric Fernung in response to the architecture, light, scale, materials, and use of the space

Selected Work

Artist-Led from Concept to Completion

A man is crouched down painting a mural of a forest scene on the side of a building. The mural depicts green trees and foliage, creating a realistic forest landscape. The man is using a paintbrush and appears focused on his work. The setting is outdoors, surrounded by trees and natural light.
A person stands in front of a large butterfly mural on a wall, painting or decorating its wing with a brush. The butterfly is black with orange and yellow patterns and red spots. There is a small wooden stool and a chair nearby in the room.

Fernung Studio is the working practice of Indianapolis artist Eric Fernung.

Eric came to mural painting through photography, developing an eye for composition, natural light, environment, and the relationship between people and place. That approach now informs every commission.

Rather than adapting a stock image to a wall, Eric develops the artwork around the room and its architecture. He personally directs and paints each project, bringing in trusted assistance only when the scale or schedule requires it.

The Commission Process

Colorful mural of oranges and green leaves painted on a wall in a modern office or waiting area. Furniture includes a brown leather chair, a green cushioned sofa, and a wooden coffee table. The ceiling has black panels with built-in spotlights.

Most projects move from initial inquiry to final walk-through over six to twelve weeks, depending on scope and scheduling.

1. Project Inquiry

Send photographs of the wall and surrounding space, approximate dimensions, your location, and preferred timeline.

2. Direction, Design, and Quote

After an initial conversation, Eric develops the project direction and provides a written quote. Approved commissions move into composition studies, palette development, and digital mockups when appropriate.

3. On-Site Painting

The mural is painted on-site using materials selected for the surface and environment. Work areas are protected and cleaned at the end of each day

Have a project in mind?

Send three to five photographs of the wall and surrounding space, approximate dimensions, your city, and your preferred timeline.

You do not need to have a finished design. A general direction, reference image, or description of how you want the space to feel is enough to begin.
